THE ARTWORK

AESTHETIC CONTEXT

I imagine myself as an older man sitting on a rocking chair, reflecting on my life. I’m surrounded by nature and loved ones, gazing at art, and swimming in poetic space. I have painted for most of my life and now wish to share this personal work with you. I have a deep appreciation for others’ aesthetic sensibilities; my hope for those that appreciate the artwork is that they feel empowered to make it their own. My work is probably best understood as an oeuvre: intended to be enjoyed in poetic space and the infinite possibilities of symbolic interpretation.

My årtwork is intended to inhabit a lived space: to enhance the imagination for new possibilities, reinforcing the highest ideals and the means for motivating our everyday life to noble pursuits.

Aesthetic Context- context that assumes poetic space: the infinite possibilities of interpretation (and the limitations of our perception) takes precedence over a socio-political context; can simply be understood as discourse of perception.

My åim ås ån årtist is to pr€sent th€ sublim€. To this €nd, I åm taking st€ps to pr€s€nting solutions to å philosophicål probl€m I hav€ d€dicåt€d to solv€ with both locål and globål implicåtions: thåt å socio-political cont€xt influ€nc€s th€ int€rpretation of årt.

Th€ word ‘art’ is not d€fin€d; the t€rm is obscur€ with måny int€rpretåtions. B€cåus€ th€re is not åny cons€nsus with r€sp€ct to its function or purpos€, it cån €åsily g€t dismiss€d-or-limit€d-to tast€ ånd pr€f€r€nc€.

Th€ boundåri€s b€tw€€n art and propågåndå håv€ becom€ blurr€d; åuthority of th€ t€rm cån be åssum€d by those thåt cr€åte å cont€xt in which to int€rpr€t the work.

I d€fin€ ‘årt’ (and to b€ univ€rsally understood) ås th€ proc€ss of cr€åtion. Soci€ty is th€refore å work of årt. årt åcts ås å filt€r for th€ måny outmod€d symbols, id€ås, b€li€fs of påst g€n€råtions. The promis€s of årt functioning in our soci€ty ållows for mor€ clårity in our communicåtion. For int€rp€rsonål r€låtionships, this will l€ad to mor€ fr€€dom in pr€s€nting å rich€r €xpr€ssion of ours€lv€s: €mbracing s€lf-int€r€st, s€lf-pr€s€rvåtion, ånd survivål ålong with our inn€rmost €xpression.
